He explained that generation and demand must match, at least until <em>\u2018Grid Scale\u2019<\/em> battery storage becomes available. If a power station suffers an outage, the opportunity to sell electricity for that period is lost forever.<\/p><p>He discussed how ageing can affect the integrity and efficiency of the assets, influencing both operating risks and insurance claims. As electricity is a true commodity, the only measure of quality is that it is available when you need it at the right voltage and frequency. Therefore, when a power station experiences an issue, it can severely impact the quality of life for consumers, and damage the business operations of service providers.<\/p><p>Nick also discussed the tools that are necessary to successfully manage power plant assets and provided an overview of some low-carbon and alternative technologies.<\/p><p>Nick was joined at the conference by Business Development Managers, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hawkins.biz\/experts\/graeme-drysdale\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Graeme Drysdale<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hawkins.biz\/experts\/andrew-moncrieff\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Dr Andrew Moncrieff<\/a>, who were available to respond to any questions from delegates at the Hawkins stand.<\/p><p>Nick is a Chartered Engineer, specialising in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hawkins.biz\/expertise\/engineering\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">engineering<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hawkins.biz\/expertise\/fire-explosions\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">fire and explosion<\/a> investigations in industrial, commercial, and domestic premises. His expertise includes power plant operations and the maintenance of heavy <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hawkins.biz\/expertise\/engineering\/electrical-engineering\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">electrical<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hawkins.biz\/expertise\/engineering\/mechanical-engineering\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">mechanical<\/a> equipment in the<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hawkins.biz\/expertise\/power-energy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> power generation<\/a> industry.
