{"id":7740,"date":"2022-08-30T15:05:35","date_gmt":"2022-08-30T14:05:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.hawkins.biz\/?post_type=leadership&#038;p=7740"},"modified":"2025-08-22T09:33:20","modified_gmt":"2025-08-22T08:33:20","slug":"gavin-dunn","status":"publish","type":"leadership","link":"https:\/\/www.hawkins.biz\/our-experts\/gavin-dunn\/","title":{"rendered":"Gavin Dunn"},"content":{"rendered":"\t\t<div data-elementor-type=\"wp-post\" data-elementor-id=\"7740\" class=\"elementor elementor-7740\" data-elementor-post-type=\"leadership\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<section class=\"has_eae_slider elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-20f5884d elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-eae-slider=\"71785\" data-id=\"20f5884d\" data-element_type=\"section\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"has_eae_slider elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-3231392b\" data-eae-slider=\"52588\" data-id=\"3231392b\" data-element_type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-495072a8 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"495072a8\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Having gained a first-class MEng degree in Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering from Queen\u2019s University Belfast (QUB), Gavin started his career by taking on the role of Knowledge Transfer Partnership Associate with QUB and John Huddleston Engineering.\u00a0 During this time, he developed the use of CATIA computer aided design software across the business to manufacture 5-axis precision machined aerospace parts, before accepting a position with John Huddleston Engineering as an Engineer.\u00a0 In this role Gavin programmed 5-axis machining centres, designed tooling and jigs, and ensured a consistent production of complex precision aerospace parts was maintained.<\/p><p>In 2010, Gavin joined Forensic Science Northern Ireland as a Forensic Engineer in the Road Traffic Collisions (RTC) team.\u00a0 In this role, Gavin attended serious and fatal road traffic collision scenes across Northern Ireland often in the immediate aftermath while the road remained closed by police.\u00a0 Gavin was responsible for the forensic reconstruction of collisions from the scene through to the court room.\u00a0 He conducted examinations, tests, and analyses to determine the circumstances of each collision as fully as possible, many of which were high profile cases.\u00a0 He routinely advised investigation teams on forensic strategy, provided direction to other scientific staff, and liaised with external technical contacts.\u00a0 Gavin also enjoyed training and mentoring colleagues, as well as representing the RTC team on matters relating to quality management and external accreditation.<\/p><p>Gavin is familiar with the full spectrum of collision types from pedestrians to HGVs, and he holds driving licence categories from motorcycles to articulated lorries.\u00a0 He is experienced in analysing information from various sources such as digital tachograph systems, event data recorders, and CCTV footage.
